Radio Northwoods at Camp Nicolet
A fun new elective offered on most Tuesday and Thursdays evenings, podcasting on Camp Nicolet’s YouTube channel has become quite popular among Session I campers. The Radio Northwoods show, hosted by Jeremy Starz, features our very own Nicolet campers of all ages. Each participant is asked to come on the show with three camp topics in mind that they wish to discuss. The group also chooses a song or two to add a bit of music to their air time.
Jeremy has his degree in broadcasting and has worked for several radio stations as a professional DJ. He currently hosts The Northwoods Cafe on WXPR.org each Wednesday evening from 6:00 – 9:00 p.m. With this background, Jer makes the show run smoothly and enables the campers to feel comfortable and focused in front of the microphone.
Camp is an adventure in growth for kids and many opportunities experienced at camp can lead to future careers. Some of our Nicolet alumni include a Broadway actress who first appeared onstage at the Little Theater and a camper who always got up in the Dining Hall and announced baseball scores and later became a producer of a popular CBS television series. Another alumna was a film editor for an Academy Award winning movie who took photography at camp and got some of her first darkroom experience in the very space that is now the broadcasting studio. So one never knows…what may be a fun camp activity, may turn into a budding career! Join us each week and tune into RadioNorthwoods.com.
