Camp Nicolet

Staff Training 2014

Prior to campers arriving for Session I, Nicolet Staff attended two intensive weeks of training to prepare them for the camp season. The first week included numerous days of American Red Cross Lifeguard training and certification with various skills learned and practiced at our own waterfront at Nicolet. Rounding out the first week was our traditional USA Water Ski Level I Instructor training school. In addition to Nicolet’s ski staff, we also had water ski staff from a few other local camps join us for boat driving, instructional skills, and deep water rescue training. New this summer was a one-day clinic with the Riding Director, Fred,  and riding staff from Red Arrow Camp. Our summertime equine friends join us from Fred’s farm and Fred, along with Nikki, and Annie (Nicolet’s Riding Directors), conducted a thorough session that included ring work, instructional techniques, trail riding, and even swimming with the horses. A fun new addition to staff training!

ski school boom3

Water ski instructors and drivers learned the technique necessary for driving with the “boom” – an excellent teaching device for various skills.

All the certification and training clinics were followed by our own full staff training week. After sessions in CPR/First Aid, risk management, camper management, activity area teaching clinics, and cabin prep, the Nicolet staff were more than ready for camp’s 70th summer to begin. 2-0-1-4 at Nicolet…no other year the same!
