Wonderful Week One Activities!
Session I – Week One has been sooo busy filled with exciting new activities, new friends to meet, and new experiences to enjoy. The peaceful Northwoods paradise known as Camp Nicolet soon became a bustling little community once the big camp bus pulled into the driveway on June 15th. Campers from all over the USA and other countries met one another and moved into their new summer homes on the shore of Franklin Lake.
The very first evening of camp was a great time to meet everyone and have cabin and staff introduction skits in Forest Lodge. We sang camp songs and enjoyed seeing the creative and crazy intros hosted by the staff campfire committee. Starting right off on Monday morning campers began their regular activities that included hourly instruction in swimming, smallcraft (kayaking, SUPing, canoeing, and sailing), arts & crafts, water skiing, and horseback riding. Monday was also fun because of the Camp Sister party in the evening that included boats rides, s’mores, and fun games on the sports field. Tuesday was highlighted by the first evening electives of the summer that included trail riding, yoga on the beach, a sunset paddle to Tiger’s Tail, and the first-ever historic podcast from Nicolet’s new studio: Radio Northwoods at Camp Nicolet. Fun stuff! Wednesday was cookout suppers. Each cabin hiked to one of the sites in the Nicolet Outpost and cooked their own supper over an open fire – tinfoil dinners and banana boats – yummm!
Northpoint Adventures launched their first excursion of the 2014 season on Friday with an exhilarating white water rafting trip on the Peshtigo River for older campers. Friday evening was a special unit night activity for both the East and West End cabins – a surprise! Our Session I Dining Hall Night was also Friday evening with a fun “Hunger Games” theme when each row of tables dressed in the mode of one of the Districts. Week One concluded with Saturday regular activities and an evening campfire with songs and cabin skits in the Council Ring.
Note for Nicolet campers, staff, and parents: more extensive photo galleries of all the week’s activities are posted on the Camp In Touch section of your CampMinder account (password protected). Brief accounts and a few photos are also posted on the Camp Nicolet and Camp Nicolet Alumni Facebook pages.
