Personal Vehicle — First Day and Last Day
Please plan to drop your camper off between the hours of 1:00 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. on the first day of her camp session. Our staff are working hard to prepare for her arrival that morning, so early drop-offs are strongly discouraged. When you arrive, you can pull your car up to the camp office and check in, then proceed along the road to the back of her cabin. Please see the map at the end of your copy of Nicolet Notes for Parents for a reference. Feel free to help your camper unload and get settled. Also, please help to ease the transition to camp by keeping drop-off upbeat and exciting. Prolonged or sad goodbyes can lead to an increased occurrence of homesickness. Happy and excited parents help ease any apprehension campers may feel.
On the last day of your camper’s session, please plan to arrive no later than 10:00 a.m. Camp buses depart at 8:15 a.m., and our intersession campers (those staying for more than one session) head out on a special trip at 10:30 a.m. You may proceed directly to your camper’s cabin and load up her belongings. Please take some time to let your camper give you a tour of camp and tell you all about her summer experience. They will most likely have much to tell you!
Chartered Bus
Location, dates, and times can be found in your copy of Nicolet Notes for Parents, which was mailed to you upon registration.
Please make sure to arrive on time for the bus. Updates about the bus on first and last days of sessions are sent to parents using e-mail and the Campanion app. If you find yourself running late, please call the camp office so that we may relay that information to the bus chaperones.
Prior to boarding the bus for camp, your camper must check in with the bus chaperone, obtain a nametag, and place her lunch order. After completing these steps, please take her bags to the bus. Your camper may board the bus to put her carry-on items in her seat and then get back off to wait until departure. When you hear the bus chaperone call for boarding, please encourage your camper to be prompt as the bus does have a schedule to keep. Lunch is provided en route each way. Many campers will bring snacks and electronics for the bus ride. Please be aware that these items will be collected upon arrival to camp. Electronics will be held in a safe until the last day of the camper’s session and snacks will be thrown away. We do not hold food for the return bus ride.
When your camper returns from camp, she will need to be checked out with the bus chaperone. Please DO NOT leave until this has been done. Please also make sure to double (and maybe even triple.) check inside and under the bus to ensure that you have all of your camper’s belongings.
Please note: Camp Nicolet does not provide transportation to or from the bus pickup locations, to or from Chicago or Milwaukee airports. It’s the responsibility of families to provide this connection. If you have questions or would like more information, please contact the office.
Airport Shuttle
Camp Nicolet provides shuttle service to/from Rhinelander-Oneida County Airport (RHI), Central Wisconsin Airport (CWA), and Iron Mountain airport (IMT). Once your flight is booked, please update your “Residential Travel Form” with flight details. If your camper is flying as an “unaccompanied minor,” please contact the camp office the week before her flight to obtain the name and phone number of the person who will be picking her up. Please have your daughter wear her Camp Nicolet uniform shirt so that she may easily be identified.
When your daughter arrives, she is met by a Camp Nicolet Staff member & driver just outside the security checkpoint & gates. Staff wear a green Camp Nicolet Staff Shirt when providing airport shuttle service. Please make sure to upload a photo of your camper to MY CAMP ACCOUNT and ask her to wear her Camp Nicolet Camper polo shirt on travel days.
Safety
If your camper is riding the bus or will be picked up on the airport shuttle, we ask that you take some time to discuss safety rules. These rules include:
- Staying with you until she boards the bus. We utilize public spaces for pick-up and drop-off so there will be other foot and vehicle traffic in the area. Camp Nicolet does not assume responsibility for your camper until she boards the bus.
- Staying with the airport shuttle driver at all times.
- Choosing a seat and staying in that seat the entire duration of the trip (except for bathroom breaks and lunch stops if riding the bus).
- Using an “inside voice” so that the driver can concentrate on the road.
Baggage
If your camper’s baggage will be shipped to camp via FedEx or UPS, please make sure it is sent at least one week prior to her arrival to our physical street address:
Camp Nicolet
Camper Name
16040 Hwy 70 East
Eagle River, WI 54521
If you would like her baggage shipped home at the end of camp, please provide return shipping labels for each item. These can be sent with your camper or mailed to the camp office. If the bags are locked, please don’t forget to send the keys with your camper.
For those who are arriving on the bus or via airport shuttle, transportation of baggage to camp is included in the transportation cost (excluding airline baggage fees). Airlines baggage fees are charged to family camp store accounts, if an alternate payment method is not present. Please attempt to limit the number of bags to two large soft-sided duffels. Help us ensure they get to your camper in a timely fashion upon arrival by clearly labeling the outside of the bag with your camper’s full name.
